“School for the Blind” is managed by 'THE WELFARE' , a non-profitable and voluntary institution dedicated to educating and rehabilitating visually impaired children and adults in Balasore District, Orissa , India. . The Institute is committed to promote rights and dignity of persons with visual impairments. In order to achieve this laudable objective, the Institute produces trained manpower for providing quality education, vocational training and rehabilitation services to the visually impaired persons. It also undertakes research and developmental activities ensuring emergence of disability inclusive awareness of policies, programmes and practices.
We also extended a number of useful tools and enabling technologies for equal participation by the visually impaired persons in different walks of life.
The Welfare “School for the Blind” was started with a view to cater the needs of blind community across the state without any discrimination of caste & creeds , community, sex and age. The association aims at the all-around development of each and every blind individual to make him/her a self supporting and contributing member of the society. .
As a first step in this direction the organization started a hostel for the blind with about ten children a small rented house. Later it was converted into a rented Residential School providing FREE Boarding, Lodging and Education.
Today there are about 77 blind students with separate facilities for boys and girls. It is a recognized school maintaining higher standards of education. The school has been fetching 100% results since its inception and it stands as the only High-School for the Blind run by THE WELFARE ( an Non Government Organization) without any Govt. Aid in the North Orissa covering adjourning district of Balasore like Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar & Jajpur. Several important dignitaries of Central & State Governments visited our school and expressed their utmost satisfaction and happiness over the functioning of the school in particular and organization in general.
Sj. Naveen Pattanaik, Hon'ble Chief Minister, Odisha was kind enough for cent percent (100%) result and falicited all the passout Blind Students in H.S.C. Exam, 2009 on 4 th. July 2009 at Secretariate Chief Minister Conference Hall in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
